Elegant, functional and it fits! November 4, 2009 Michael A. Shoemaker (Houston, TX) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
First, I have previously reviewed an excellent Grohe kitchen faucet and would still recommend this faucet highly. The reason for replacing it with this equally excellent Kohler relates to how the unit fits given a change that we have made while remodeling the kitchen. In doing the remodel we are replacing an existing ceramic tile backsplash with granite. Critically, the granite backsplash is deeper and therefore intrudes on the top of the granite countertop further than the old tile backsplash did.
The operating lever on the Grohe is longer and positioned in the center of the faucet, so when you pushd the lever back to get hot water, it would touch the tile at the full hot setting. With the granite being deeper, this lever would not be able to go to full hot because the granite would block the lever! Not a good thing!
The Kohler eliminates this problem in two ways: First, the lever is shorter and therefore pushing it towards the rear does not extend the lever as far back and second, the valve and handle are towards the front of the faucet rather than centered with it. This means that the lever barely exceeds the rear of the faucet by 1/2" at full hot where the Grohe requires almost 3 1/2" of clearance for the handle to reach full hot position!
Grohe makes an excellent faucet and this is in no way a criticism of their mechanical, cosmetic or functional quality. But if you have any restrictions on space, especially behind the faucet where the lever throw can be critical, this Kohler will deliver the style and quality while fitting in much tighter spots!
Oh, and the design is really nicely functional, too. Put a pasta pot under this without problem - both the extended height and reach make filling such oversized pots and pans a snap!
Outstanding July 12, 2009 Christine (Ormond Beach. FL) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Elegant - sleek - functional - It accentuated the new stilestone countertops and is the focal point of the kitchen.
Really is superior to Grohe August 18, 2010 Stephen Gates (New York, NY United States) I have owned the Grohe Ladylux Plus and the Kohler Evoke and after spending a lot of time with both of them I have to say the Kohler is the far superior faucet for a lot of reasons.
The way the Kohler faucet is installed is extremely well designed and it took me maybe 10 minutes to install from opening the box to the finished product. It is something anyone with the most bsic handyman skill could do themselves. The Grohe took me over an hour because of confusing instructions that were all vague diagrams and no real instructions.
There are some differences in using the two faucets. The lever and its housing on the Kohler is smaller and more compact which I like not only for the aesthetics but because it stays out of the way and doesn't need as much depth behind the faucet. The Groge needs a lot of space behind the faucet and you have to have it because to get hot water you have to push the level all the way back. The pull out on the Kohler is longer which is nice for working around the sink or filling a container without having to put it below the faucet. I also like the pause button which was only on the Kohler so you can stop the flow of water as you are moving the faucet head to a pot or plant outside of the sink without having to turn the level off and on. It is a small thing but it makes a nice difference.
Well built and stylish. May 22, 2010 Samuel Devine (Minneapolis, MN US) Very nice faucet. Kohler still makes great products. Would give it 5 stars but the switch from stream to spray is a little goofy. It works but it could be more smooth.
Looks great - takes getting used to June 15, 2010 Dave Garrett (Fairfax, VA) This faucet is a bit high above the sink, so you get a lot of splashing water outside of the sink if you hold the dishes you're rinsing up too close to the nozzle. I guess if you used the sprayer more, this wouldn't happen. We get lots of compliments on the way it looks.
